When a bank connection stops updating

What the Reconnect button means, why connections pause, and how to get your balances moving again.

Updated · 2 min read

Most of the time a linked bank just keeps working. When it doesn't, it's almost always one of four things, and none of them lose your data.

You see "A bank connection needs reconnecting"

Your consent needs confirming with Akahu, or your bank has asked you to sign in again, often after a password change. Press Reconnect in the banner, sign in to your bank again through Akahu, and you're done. Everything you'd already synced stays where it was, and the next sync fills the gap.

The balance looks out of date

  1. Open Accounts and check the Connections list. It says when each connection last synced.
  2. If it says Connected, sync it now from there. Banks sometimes take a while to share new transactions, especially over a weekend.
  3. If it says Needs attention, the message next to it says what went wrong.

A transaction is missing

Card purchases usually don't appear until they've cleared at your bank, which can take a few days. If it's been longer than that, check that the account was ticked when you linked. You can add a missing account by reconnecting and ticking it on Akahu's screen.

Your bank is having a bad day

Bank outages and maintenance windows happen. The connection carries on by itself once the bank is back, so you don't need to do anything.

Still stuck? Email hello@worthberry.co with your bank's name and roughly when it stopped. That's all we need: our support tools don't show your balances or transactions, so there's no need to send screenshots of them. Don't send your banking password. We will never ask for it.
