Link your bank, KiwiSaver and Sharesies

A step-by-step guide to connecting your NZ bank accounts to Worthberry through Akahu.

Updated · 2 min read

Linking takes about two minutes per bank. You'll need your internet banking login to hand, and your phone if your bank sends a code.

Before you start

  • Linking is on Sprout, Ripe and Harvest, and on every account during the private beta. Sprout links up to 10 accounts.
  • If you use more than one bank, you can link them all in one go. Akahu lets you add each bank on its screens.

Link it

  1. In Worthberry, open Accounts and press Connect. You can also press Add at the top of any page and choose Link banks & KiwiSaver.
  2. Choose Link banks & KiwiSaver. You'll go to Akahu's page.
  3. Create your Akahu login, or sign in if you have one already.
  4. Pick your bank and sign in. Depending on your bank, you'll sign in on your bank's own screen or through Akahu. Either way, Worthberry never sees your password.
  5. Tick the accounts you want in Worthberry. Leave any you'd rather keep out.
  6. Confirm, and you'll come back to Worthberry with the message Bank connected. Your accounts are synced.

Your balances stay yours. Linking sends your balances and transactions to your Worthberry, not to our team. The tools we use to run Worthberry show your email and plan, never your money. How bank syncing works has the detail.

Your first sync brings in recent history, so your budgets and charts have something to work with straight away. How far back depends on your bank.

After you link

  • Linked accounts show an Akahu label in Accounts, and their balances update on every sync.
  • Transactions sort themselves into categories. Change one and keep Remember this ticked, so every transaction from that merchant lands in the right place from then on.
  • KiwiSaver accounts from linked providers appear under Assets → KiwiSaver.

If your bank isn't there

Not every bank, credit union or provider is on Akahu. For those, import a CSV statement, or add the account by hand from Accounts → Add manually and update the balance when you like.
